UEW Apologises to Neenyi Ghartey VII
Following a report to the Academic Board on 23rd February, 2018 of a threat by Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe (a Senior lecturer at UEW) to the Chairman and Members of the Governing Council on 22nd February, 2018 and Academic Board’s unanimous condemnation of such gross misconduct, a 10-member delegation from the Academic Board led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni paid a visit to the Paramount Chief of Effutu Traditional Council, Neenyi Ghartey VII to apologise.
The Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq, while addressing the gathering, indicated that the act of Dr. Samuel Ofori Bekoe was uncalled for. He however, pleaded with the Paramount Chief to tamper justice with mercy and forgive the uncouth behavior exhibited. He said, “if a child excretes on one’s lap, one does not cut off the lap but wipes it”. The delegation offered two bottles of Schnapps.
On his part, the Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Council accepted the apology for all damages caused through the ugly incidence to his personality, the Royal Stool and the entire Effutu community. He hoped to continue to have peaceful co-existence with the officials and prayed that the University would thrive to its highest peak to achieve the purpose for which it was established.
