COLTEK SRC Expand Wireless Internet Connectivity on Campus
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) has sponsored an expansion and improvement of the Wireless Internet connectivity on the Campus to make it more accessible to students. The GHC74,478 project which took less than a month to complete has resulted in the installation of the facility in all three Halls of Residence (Atwima, Opoku Ware and Autonomy) as well as the SRC Secretariat and main Library area.
Speaking on why the SRC ventured into such an area, the Public Relations Officer of the SRC, Mr Richard Tibila explained that expanding internet access to students was one of the key campaign promises that the incumbent President made to win the position and therefore, he made it a priority. Again, he was of the view that as students, there was no facility as important as having unlimited access to the internet if one meant to improve academically and therefore, the successful completion of the facility had become a real joy to the students’ leadership. “We are very optimistic that the occasional attacks on some students who visit the limited areas that previously had internet on campus would reduce even if not completely stopped”, he said and cautioned thus “you should not take advantage of this facility to be visiting unhealthy websites but let it be beneficial to your studies”.
The Administrator of the SRC WIFI, Mr. Patrick Kwadwo Ware said the SRC had put in place measures to ensure that the top-notch devices acquired for the project are maintained for the next two years by the Contractor, 1ST Microtech Limited. He explained that the total cost of the project quoted elsewhere in this story covered “the purchase of Access Point Devices, configuration, installation and maintenance for two years”.
Meanwhile, the SRC is at the tail-end of preparations towards the launching of an Endowment Fund to support disabled students on the COLTEK campus.
