Introduction
The Faculty of Educational Studies (F.E.S.) formerly known as the Faculty of Specialized Professional Studies in Education (F.S.P.S.E.) is one of the faculties of the University. It was established in 1992. The F.E.S. comprises of the following academic units and centres:
- Department of Special Education (includes the Centre for Speech and Hearing Services and Community Based Rehabilitation Unit).
- Department of Psychology and Education
- Department of Basic Education
- Department of Early Childhood Care and Development
- Centre for Educational Policy Studies
- Educational Resource Centre

The programmes in the Faculty of Educational Studies are designed to train qualified teachers to handle pupils/students in both regular and special schools at basic/secondary levels and also to offer educational leadership. They also prepare teachers to teach in the tertiary institutions and aim at training reading teachers who will improve upon communication skills for basic school children. Besides, the programmes aim at equipping graduates with the skills of teaching at all levels of education. In addition the undergraduate programmes aims at promoting research with the involvement of regular pupils and students and persons who are physically challenged (inclusive education) and providing skills in learning and teaching materials for effective utilization and supervision of instruction.
Achievements
- The Faculty graduated its first batch of Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Care and Development students in October, 2009. Ten foreign students were admitted to pursue Post Diploma programmes in Special Education.
- The Graduate Board and the Academic Planning Committee in 2009 approved the following programmes to start from 2010/2011 academic year.
